Shared Taxi
Following rules apply here.
- No fixed schedule
- Always negotiate the price before departure
- Taxi leaves when all seats are full occupies (mostly four seats)
- If you pay for all seats then you can also use the taxi alone
- Seats fill quickly for the most frequently used routes (more difficult in the afternoon)
Negotiation of the fare price
- If the minibus serves the same route and it is not much slower than I would prefer the minibus because there are fixed prices so you pay the local instead of overcharged prices (no negotiation necessary).
- I would recommend to buy a travel guide where the prices of the shared taxis are mentioned e. g. Lonely Planet until 2022 to avoid being cheated.
- Please DON’T buy the new version of lonely planet after 2022 because they have radically shortened the capital “Getting there & Away” and don’t mention the fare prices anymore.
- Taxi drivers often try to charge 3 – 10 times of the normal price
- Mostly many taxi drivers are touting for their customers therefore don’t take the first one but negotiate with several taxi drivers so that they are forced to reduce the price
- Start with the lowest price which is mentioned in the travel guide. If you pay 50 % more than the normal price then you should accept it as tourist price.
- Some taxi drivers only call the number and understand it as e. g. “40 Dollar” instead of “40 Som” therefore clarify the currency in the negotiation
